Physiotherapy's Alexander Technique

F.M. Alexander invented this particular physiotherapy technique. He was born in 1869 and died in 1955. Alexander, it could be said was a versatile person, he toured places in Australia and Tasmania as an actor with the Shakespearean troupe.

Around the same he contracted voice problems and what he did is completely history. With the passing of a little time his throat went extremely rough, thereafter wherever he went with the troupe he would immediately visit the local physician for help, but he found none.

The physicians were unable to could not detect the cause for his rough throat. Alexander could not believe that there wasn’t a cure so he thought he would have to do something on his own.

After failing to get cured, Alexander started to see his own moves. Alexander would look into the mirrors constantly in an attempt to find the cause. It took 9 years for Alexander to find the cause and come with a remedy: Alexander Technique.

Alexander designed a technique, which ultimately cure his rough throat and gave him his voice back. For him after 9 year is happened to be a miracle. As an actor his voice was his craft. But Alexander did not name this technique after his name he instead termed it primary control.

Alexander Technique had a theory to it; it says that the neck, head & torso are the chief aspects influencing the movement, function & posture. Or in simple terms the body parts are the one that control the features of a human’s anatomy.

Throughout the 9 yrs Alexander learned that when these particular body parts get compressed they do not allow the features to function properly either. For him this meant that he had a bad posture and gradually it resulted in the roughness of his voice.

Similarly the same bad posture could have dissimilar effect on other people but the Alexander Technique could cure them. Primary control or Alexander Technique, as it is known meant that the right positioning of the neck, head & torso, which will allow the human body to work as, required.

The entire country is today making use of primary control. It is preached to old and young people alike. As a matter of fact anyone wishing can learn it.

Those who impart Alexander Technique take on imparting this technique on a one on one basis. Though it is not general practice but Primary control is imparted to groups too.

It is highly important that the person imparting gives full knowledge of physiotherapy methods so that the person in need knows what to do and how exactly to do. Alexander Technique helps in the relaxation of the muscles.

This allows for people to regain their actual and correct posture. Imparting this method helps in the synergies of human body as a whole, Alexander Technique will vastly help to improve the functioning of all body parts.

The Primary control method form of physiotherapy is highly effective. This method will have effect on problems associated to posture only, but there also exists numerous other problems as well. People suffering from major illnesses & disabilities might not benefit from this method.
